Where the Bloodline Is Blocked in Your Body — A Test and a Way Through

Ancestral load is physical. Whatever a family could not finish — grief that was never allowed, a war that was survived in silence, a child who was never spoken of, money that was lost and never mourned — becomes a pattern of holding in the bodies of the people who come after. The pattern is not a memory. It is a posture, a breathing depth, a reflex. That is why insight alone rarely changes it, and why the body is the honest place to begin.

Below is the test we use at the start of lineage work. It is not a diagnosis and it does not replace medical care. It is a map of where in your body the family is still speaking.

How to take the test

Sit, close your eyes, and take three slow breaths. Then read each group of statements and give yourself a score from 0 to 3 — 0 means never, 3 means this is daily life. Answer with the body, not with your opinion of yourself. Write the seven totals down; the highest two are where the work begins.

1. Crown and head — the lineage of thinking for everyone

My mind does not switch off at night. I solve other people's problems before my own. I feel responsible for outcomes I cannot influence. I had to be the sensible one early. Headaches or pressure at the top of the skull under stress.

A high score here usually belongs to a family where a child became the adult. The body guards with vigilance because nobody else was watching. The way through is not more insight; it is delegating one real thing per week and tolerating how wrong it feels.

2. Throat — the lineage of what was never said

I rehearse sentences and then do not say them. My voice becomes thin when I speak about myself. I swallow or clear my throat under tension. Family history has a subject that is simply not discussed. I agree out loud and disagree inside.

This is the most common blockage in post-war Central European families, where silence was genuinely protective. The way through is to speak the family rule aloud — 'in this family we do not name what happened' — and then say one true sentence per day, out loud, to a real person, starting with the smallest.

3. Shoulders and neck — the lineage of carrying

I wake tired. My shoulders sit high even at rest. I find it almost impossible to be helped. I was praised for strength, not for feeling. Rest only feels allowed after total exhaustion.

Here the body is still carrying loads that belong to people who are dead. The way through is physical and literal: lie on the floor, let the shoulder blades drop, and let someone do one thing for you without immediately repaying it.

4. Chest and heart — the lineage of unfinished grief

My chest tightens when something good arrives. I keep a distance in close relationships. I grieve late or not at all. Someone in the family died, left, or was lost and it was never properly mourned. I feel sadness with no story attached.

Unmourned loss does not disappear; it is inherited as a closed chest. The way through is to give the grief a container — one hour, one candle, a named person, permission to weep for someone you may never have met. Grief that is given a place stops leaking into everything.

5. Solar plexus — the lineage of powerlessness and money

My stomach reacts to conflict before I do. Money creates fear regardless of the amount. I shrink in front of authority. There was a bankruptcy, confiscation, or sudden poverty in the family. I cannot ask for what my work is worth.

This centre holds collapse — the moment a family lost agency and never regained the feeling of it. The way through is small, completed acts of agency: one request made, one price stated, one boundary held to the end, repeated until the stomach learns that asking no longer brings catastrophe.

6. Belly and pelvis — the lineage of exclusion and shame

Pleasure is followed by guilt. My hips are chronically tight. There is a secret in the family about a birth, a relationship, or a woman who was cast out. I feel like a guest in my own body. Sexuality is either hidden or performed, rarely simply inhabited.

Pelvic holding is almost always a lineage where someone was shamed and excluded. The way through is restoration: name the excluded person, say aloud that they belong, and move the hips daily without a goal — walking, swaying, anything that ends the freeze.

7. Legs and feet — the lineage of not being allowed to stay

I always have an exit planned. I cannot settle in one place, job, or relationship. Standing still makes me anxious. The family migrated, fled, or lost its home. I feel I have no right to take up space.

Displacement is stored in the legs. The way through is ground: bare feet on earth, the same short walk daily, one commitment kept for a full year. Belonging is not a feeling you wait for; it is built by repetition in one place.

You do not have to understand your whole family history. You have to stop lending it your body.

The release sequence that works in every centre

Whatever your highest score, the structure of release is the same four movements. First, locate: put a hand where the reading is strongest and breathe there for two minutes without trying to change it. Second, name: speak the family rule in plain language, as a sentence a child could understand. Third, return: say aloud, with respect, that the burden belongs to the one who carried it first, and that you are giving it back without rejecting them. Fourth, replace: choose one new instruction and practise it daily for forty days — the nervous system does not accept emptiness, only a new habit.

Expect the body to protest in the first week and to go quiet in the third. The marker of real release is not a surge of emotion; it is that an old family situation stops producing the same physical reaction. When your stomach no longer drops at a particular phone call, the work has landed.

When to do this with someone

Do this alone if your score is spread evenly and nothing is overwhelming. Work with a practitioner if one centre scores 3 across every statement, if there was violence, early loss or addiction in the lineage, or if the body floods as soon as you place your hand. A field that was held under pressure for generations should not be opened alone in a single afternoon.

The test put me in the shoulders and I laughed out loud — I have carried night-watch tension my whole adult life.

Three weeks of the release sequence. The shift is small and completely real.

The clearest description of inherited tension I have read anywhere, and I have read a lot.
